Falco tinnunculus

The Common Kestrel is a small falcon about the size of a pigeon. It hovers in place on beating wings while searching the ground for rodents and insects. In central and northern Honshu it sometimes breeds colonially on cliff ledges and in holes, and such breeding sites have been designated as Natural Monuments.
