Nepa hoffmanni (Japanese water scorpion)

Nepa hoffmanni

Nepa hoffmanni is a small true bug of wet, muddy margins, catching prey with its front legs. It has a long breathing tube at its tail and is smaller than the common water scorpion. Its habitat is limited and vulnerable to wetland change, so sites in Aichi and Mie are designated Natural Monuments.
