Anderson's Crocodile Newt

Echinotriton andersoni

The Anderson's crocodile newt is a dark newt with a row of wart-like bumps along the back, living in forests of Amami-Oshima, Tokunoshima and Okinawa Island. It usually stays under leaf litter, and when threatened its rib tips can poke through the skin as a defense. With restricted habitat, it is a Natural Monument.
