White-bellied Woodpecker (specimen)
Dryocopus javensis richardsi
The Tsushima white-bellied woodpecker was a large, black woodpecker with a red head that lived on Tsushima. It disappeared from Japan in the Meiji era and is considered extinct. The designated item is a preserved, mounted specimen in Nagasaki, one of very few from Japan and valuable evidence of an extinct bird.
