The Kumejima Firefly is found only on Kumejima in Okinawa. Its larvae live in water and feed on snails, and the adults glow along waterways in early spring. Because it is sensitive to changes in the island's waterside habitat and its range is small, it is protected as a Natural Monument of Okinawa Prefecture.
