Minmin Cicada

Hyalessa maculaticollis

The Minmin Cicada is a familiar sound of summer, calling loudly with a repeated min-min song. It is widespread from Honshu to Kyushu, but its natural range in Hokkaido is limited, and the Wakoto Peninsula in the east is known as a near-northern-limit breeding area. This site is designated a Natural Monument.
