Miyako Horse

Equus caballus

The Miyako Horse is a small native horse of Miyakojima and neighboring islands in Okinawa. Gentle by temperament, it supported island farming and transport. Its numbers once fell sharply, and conservation efforts continue to keep this link to Ryukyuan life alive.
