Japanese Wolf (specimens)

Canis lupus hodophilax

The Japanese wolf was a small wolf once native to Japan, thought to have gone extinct in the early twentieth century. The designated items are preserved specimens, a pelt and skulls, obtained in the Chichibu Mountains of Saitama. Few real specimens exist anywhere, making them precious evidence of an extinct native animal.
