Ogasawara Cicada

Meimuna boninensis

The Ogasawara Cicada is an endemic cicada found only on Chichijima and Hahajima in the Ogasawara Islands. It clings to forest trees and sucks sap, and its call echoes in summer. Introduced species and forest changes have reduced it. As a valuable endemic insect of Ogasawara, it is a Natural Monument.
