Melitaea protomedia
Melitaea protomedia is a medium-sized butterfly with black spots on orange wings, and in Japan survives only in a few grasslands in the Chugoku region such as Okayama. Its larvae feed on grassland herbs. It has declined as grassland management was abandoned, and its habitat is designated a Natural Monument.
