About the Golden Eagle
The golden eagle is a large raptor with a wingspan of around two meters, and in Japan a distinct subspecies lives in mountain country. It hunts hares and copper pheasants and builds massive nests on cliffs. It needs open ground for hunting, and with few birds remaining, both the species and its breeding sites in Iwate and Miyagi are Natural Monuments.
