About the Himeharuzemi Cicada

Himeharuzemi is a small cicada of evergreen forests of chinquapin and oak, known for calling in synchronized chorus in summer. Its nymphs live underground, sucking sap from tree roots. Emergence sites in Kasama (Ibaraki), Mobara (Chiba) and Itoigawa (Niigata) are national Natural Monuments, and Gifu and Aichi also have prefecturally designated habitats.
