About the Oodaigahara Salamander

The Oodaigahara Salamander is a large salamander found in mountain streams of the Kii Peninsula, Shikoku, and Kyushu. At night it eats small animals along the water, and it lays eggs under stones in clean streams. Named for Odaigahara in Nara, its habitats in several prefectures are designated Natural Monuments.
