About the Japanese Luehdorfia (Gifu butterfly)

The Japanese Luehdorfia is a yellow-and-black striped butterfly that appears only in early spring and is called the spring goddess. Its larvae feed on wild ginger, and adults visit flowers such as dog-tooth violets in woodland. Endemic to Japan, it lives in satoyama of Honshu, and its habitats in Kanagawa and Okayama are Natural Monuments.
