About the Band-rumped Storm Petrel

The Band-rumped Storm Petrel is a small seabird, nearly all black with only a faint pale rump patch. It lives on the open ocean and comes to land only to breed, nesting in burrows. In Japan, Hiidejima off Iwate is a known breeding site, and the species is protected as a rare bird vulnerable to human disturbance.
