About the Common Emerald Dove (Ryukyu subspecies)

The Ryukyu subspecies of the common emerald dove is a small pigeon with a metallic green back, living in forests of the southwestern islands. It walks on the ground searching for fruit and seeds. Its numbers are low and vulnerable to forest clearing and introduced animals, so it is protected as a Natural Monument.
