About the Orange Tip (Kumomatsumakichou)
The orange tip is a small alpine white butterfly whose forewing tips are orange, flying at high elevations in early summer after snowmelt. Its caterpillars feed on plants of the mustard family. Habitats in Niigata, Toyama and Nagano are designated Natural Monuments, and this alpine butterfly is vulnerable to environmental change.

Luehdorfia puziloi is a small yellow-and-black butterfly resembling the Japanese Luehdorfia, found in northern Honshu and Hokkaido. It appears in early spring in deciduous woods and grassland, and its larvae feed on wild ginger. It emerges once a year in spring and is sensitive to environmental change, so its habitats are designated Natural Monuments.
